Hi Leopards! Welcome back! I look forward to working with all of you this year in Civics! We at D.S. Parrott Middle School have been working hard to ensure a smooth transition back to school. I have been teaching social science in a lot of different classrooms for 16 years, mostly college courses at PHSC, USF and Saint Leo. I love Civics and I am so honored to be working with Leopards at D.S. Parrott Middle! I was born in Ohio and moved to Sarasota, Florida when I was in the 8th grade. I remember my middle school experience well! I attended Forest Elementary School in Ohio, McIntosh Middle School in Sarasota, Sarasota High School and attended college at the University of South Florida. I completed my Ph.D. in Sociology in 2015. I was previously employed in the private sector as a marketing research manager for firms in Tampa, Florida such as Media General, and AchieveGlobal. I also owned my own research company. I helped organizations improve relations with external, as well as internal, clients. I then went on to teach in higher education for several years before transitioning to public school education. Teaching courses such as social problems, and doing research into public policy-making has created a passion for understanding political processes which is why I am excited to teach Civics! I am an amateur musician and songwriter. I play piano and guitar and have recorded my own songs. I am in a local band called the Rogue Runners :) I am also a triathlete and love to run, bike, swim and be outside with family and friends! |
